How to Tame Jerry in Something is Wrong With My Dog

Tame Jerry by finding the thin grey wolf at the treeline, selecting three bones, using them correctly, and confirming the official Good Boy badge.

To tame Jerry, find the thin grey wolf in a red collar near the treeline, prepare three bones, select them in your inventory, and use them on him. The official Good Boy badge states that three bones make him yours and that he follows you home. The badge is the reliable requirement; exact bone spawns and the interaction animation can change with the live build.

Verified requirement: three bones. Verified result: Jerry becomes yours, follows you home, and the Good Boy badge is the confirmation point.

Identify the correct Jerry

The official Welcome to the Woods badge describes a thin grey wolf wearing a red collar and watching from the treeline while you search for Uncle Ray. Use all of those cues together. A puppy introduced by a newer event, another player’s named companion, or a wolf without the red collar is not enough to prove you found the opening Story target.

Approach while the objective still matches the early Jerry route. If the server is already deep into another player’s day or branch, starting a fresh Story run may be clearer than trying to reconstruct what has already happened. In a group, agree on who will feed the bones so several players do not consume items at once.

Prepare the three bones

Open inventory with E and verify the count before walking into interaction range. Move the bones into the active selection and close the panel. The public first-party pages confirm the requirement but do not give one permanent spawn map for every bone, so follow the current objective, loot, and world rather than a claimed universal coordinate.

The 2x Bones pass does not change the tame requirement published by Good Boy. That pass doubles bone earnings from named sources such as kills, mining, story chapters, endings, and surviving nights; it does not say that Jerry accepts fewer bones. A currency boost and an interaction cost are different facts.

If another guide says “exactly three,” read it as the confirmed completion count, not proof that carrying a fourth bone breaks the interaction. The official badge establishes three given bones. Keep extras separate if you want the hotbar count to make each use easy to observe.

Feed Jerry step by step

  1. Join a Story state where the early Jerry encounter is active.
  2. Find the grey wolf with the red collar at the treeline and approach without losing sight of him.
  3. Press E, confirm at least three bones, and make bones the active item.
  4. Close inventory and aim at Jerry from interaction range.
  5. Use the normal Place / Use action—Right Click on the published PC layout.
  6. Watch the count or feedback after each use; repeat until three bones have been accepted.
  7. Confirm Jerry follows you and look for the Good Boy badge award.

Do not rapidly click while the inventory is open or while another item is active. A visible use animation or reduced stack is better evidence than the sound of a mouse click. Let each interaction register before the next one, especially on a busy server.

Confirm the tame succeeded

Success has two strong signals: the official badge and Jerry’s changed relationship to the player. Good Boy’s description says he follows you home after the three-bone tame. If you receive the badge but Jerry pauses behind terrain, move a short, safe distance and observe whether he follows rather than immediately spending more bones.

Do not use a morning event as the tame confirmation. Morning is a different badge tied to surviving until first light, Jerry being gone, and his collar appearing by the bed. Taming is complete earlier and should be confirmed before you organize the night route.

The tame also does not prove every later Jerry mechanic. Feeding an injured Jerry is associated with Treat Time, while Good Dog and Left Hungry use newer descriptions about care. Their exact thresholds are not published. Keep the three-bone requirement separate from healing, affection, hunger, and ending choices.

If Jerry will not accept a bone

Check the active slot first. Right Click can place a block or use another item if that item is selected. Reopen inventory, select bones explicitly, and verify the held model or label after closing the panel.

Move closer and aim at Jerry rather than the ground, a nearby block, or another player. If the wolf does not match the thin-grey/red-collar description, return to the treeline and check the objective. The newer PUPPIES event means a small canine shape is no longer a unique identifier by itself.

If the stack changes but the badge does not appear, count accepted uses rather than total clicks. Network delay, a missed target, or another interaction can make the input feel successful when the item was not consumed. If three bones visibly leave the stack and Jerry still does not follow, preserve a screenshot of the objective and rejoin before trying speculative items.

What to do after Jerry follows

Return to the first-night plan: gather camp materials, keep the return route simple, and survive until morning. The official game description connects Jerry with the camp and morning mystery. Do not sprint immediately toward a distant ending route without food, shelter, or time to return.

For Story, use Bob’s map and the beginner route to choose a named destination. For Jerry-related achievements, the Jerry badges page separates official descriptions from unknown thresholds. When you are ready for spoilers, the Endings hub distinguishes Jerry outcomes such as Put Down and Sent Back instead of presenting one branch as the normal ending.

Taming versus caring for Jerry

Taming is a single early requirement with a published count. Care is a later, update-sensitive system. Treat Time officially says to feed Jerry when he is hurt. Good Dog says to love him enough that he never turns, but does not publish the amount. Left Hungry says to let him go hungry until he leaves, without a timer.

That distinction matters when troubleshooting. More food after taming may affect health or care, but it should not be described as extra tame progress. Likewise, the Name Jerry pass changes the filtered custom name used in Story dialogue; it does not buy ownership or replace the three bones.

Quick answers

How many bones do I need to tame Jerry?

Three bones. The official Good Boy badge states the number and the result.

Where is Jerry?

The official badge places the thin grey wolf in the red collar at the treeline during the search for Uncle Ray. Exact coordinates and one guaranteed spawn point are not published and may change.

Which button feeds Jerry?

On PC, select the bones and use Right Click, the published Place / Use control. Make sure the bone is active and Jerry is in range.

Does 2x Bones reduce the tame cost?

No supported source says it does. The pass doubles bone earnings from named activities; Good Boy still publishes a three-bone tame requirement.
